'Man United better compared to I expected' – Rangnick

Ralf Rangnick said his Manchester United side performed "surprisingly good" as he started his rule as between time supervisor with a tight triumph over Crystal Palace.

A more lively United showcase looked like going unrewarded against a hounded Crystal Palace outfit until midfielder Fred struck first-time from Mason Greenwood's lay-off to send an amazing 20-yard exertion twisting over Vicente Guaita and into the top corner for the champ.

It was just Fred's second objective of the period – and it was the initial time since the center of September that United have recorded consecutive association wins.

Until the Brazilian's work, Rangnick's side made various fair possibilities, without truly looking like they planned to score and Guaita would presumably have saved an Alex Telles free-kick that skimmed the bar had it been on track.

"I'm extremely content with the manner in which the group performed, particularly the principal half hour, with the squeezing, it was uncommon," Rangnick told BBC Match of the Day. "The main thing missing was the 1-0 or 2-0.

"The manner in which we guarded, we had control of the entire game.

"The perfect sheet was the main part. These are the things we should improve. We want to keep clean sheets. With simply the one instructional meeting, I was truly intrigued. We showed improvement over anticipated.

"We generally attempted to be on the front foot. We were never not separated from perhaps the most recent five minutes. At any remaining occasions we were attempting to get them far from our objective."

Royal residence, who were seeking win for a third progressive season at Old Trafford, verged on starting to lead the actual pack when Jordan Ayew turned James Tomkins header across the essence of objective and barely wide of the far post.

The triumph implied that Rangnick copied three of United's other four new administrators since Sir Alex Ferguson resigned in 2013 by dominating his first game in charge, with Louis van Gaal the main man to fall flat.
